In 2021, as businesses across British Columbia’s coastal and rural regions were navigating unprecedented disruption, the Rural Islands Economic Partnership Society (RIEP) took a practical step forward.
From that moment, Rising Tide Business Services — the newly formed non-profit social enterprise of RIEP — was launched.
Built in Direct Response to Community Needs
Rising Tide was created in response to what RIEP was hearing consistently across rural and island communities: small businesses needed hands-on digital support.
Not complicated marketing theory – and not big-agency campaigns.
They needed:
- Clear, easy-to-manage websites
- Strong search visibility
- Organized, consistent messaging
- Systems that could realistically be maintained during busy seasons
RIEP’s broader mandate is to strengthen economic resilience in rural and island communities, which means supporting local entrepreneurs, building capacity, encouraging regional collaboration, and helping communities adapt to changing conditions.
Today, digital presence is no longer optional in that equation.
Why Digital Infrastructure Matters
For coastal and visitor-based economies:
- Clear online information influences booking decisions.
- Search visibility determines who gets found — and who doesn’t.
- Steady communication builds trust and repeat customers.
For service providers, retailers, and hospitality businesses, digital clarity translates directly into economic stability.
Rising Tide operates under RIEP as a practical extension of this economic development work.
Rather than positioning digital marketing as a luxury, Rising Tide treats it as infrastructure — foundational support that allows small businesses to compete, adapt, and grow in changing conditions.
Five Years of Practical Support
Over the past five years, Rising Tide has supported organizations across coastal and island communities with:
- Easy-to-manage website builds and refreshes
- Search optimization and AI-ready visibility foundations
- Social media planning and content systems
- Ongoing monthly and quarterly support
- Structured approaches designed to reduce overwhelm
This work isn’t about flashy campaigns – it’s about stability.
In small communities, businesses are deeply interconnected. When one enterprise strengthens its presence, it contributes to the broader local economy — supporting employment, visitor experience, and community services. The health of small businesses directly affects the health of the community.
From Reactive to Ready
As RIEP continues to focus on regional economic resilience, Rising Tide remains one of the practical tools available to help businesses move from reactive to ready.
Five years in, the goal remains the same: provide grounded, manageable digital support that reflects the realities of rural and island life.
Marking the Milestone
To celebrate this five-year milestone, Rising Tide is offering a structured anniversary package designed to help businesses plan their visibility for the year ahead. Learn more about it here.
