Galiano Island: W̱SÁNEĆ and Penelakut Traditional Territory

February 2, 2021

Located in the traditional territories of the Penelakut Nation, Galiano Island is known as the “Gateway to the Southern Gulf Islands.” It’s the first ferry stop from Vancouver, BC and less than an hour from city life—so close, yet a world away.

From the shores of Active Pass, between Victoria and Vancouver, an abundance of sea birds, eagles, and more can be seen. Along the oceanfront, otters and sea lions play, and orcas pass by on their feeding route. The island boasts five provincial parks, from the white-shell beach, abundant birdlife and campground at Montague Harbour Marine Park to Bellhouse’s fishing spots and whale-spotting lookout points.

Galiano is also home to more than a dozen unique and special restaurants, several grocers , boutique shops and a variety of artisans. Support local year round as well as on summer Saturdays at the Galiano Saturday Market.

Check out everything Galiano Island has to offer.
