Quadra Island is located in the traditional territories of the Coast Salish Indigenous People, which includes the traditional lands of the Wei Wai Kai and Wei Wai Kum Indigenous People.
People are drawn to Quadra from around the world to experience hiking and mountain biking trails, beaches, whale watching, sea kayaking and majestic mountain vistas. Popular spots include Rebecca Spit Marine Provincial Park, with its shell-strewn beaches and plenty of water recreation activities, and the 1916 Cape Mudge Lighthouse that marks the southern entrance to Discovery Passage.
The largest and most populous of the central Discovery Islands, Quadra is also a hub of community – home to the Quadra Island Farmers Market on summer Saturdays, many diverse artists and studios, and the Nuyumbalees Cultural Centre, displaying totem poles, petroglyphs, and the Sacred Potlatch Collection of masks and ceremonial objects.
