Next Steps

Next Steps

The Rural Islands Economic Forum (RIEF) is the cornerstone of the Partnership. Continuing to cultivate grass roots support through the Forum network is essential. A ‘Next Steps’ working group is forming in early 2020 and will seek to build upon the Forum’s momentum by working towards:

1.     Establishing a planning framework for the next Forum.

2.     Sourcing funding, both public and private, to fund the development of a business case to formulate a three to five-year strategic business, financial, operational and communication plan, which will define the scope and mandate for the Partnership

3.     Continuing to reach out to Indigenous communities to seek their involvement in collaborative planning and organizational development.

Goal:

The Rural Islands Economic Partnership (RIEP) will show the world how to build a sustainable economy in the face of climate change. In partnership with Indigenous Communities, RIEP will leverage the combined economic strength of 18 + islands totaling 25,000+ people, to build a shared, coherent vision and operational plan for community economic vibrancy that generates long-term wealth generation without depleting natural or social resources.
