RIEP Board Director, Julie Sperber, Appointed President and CEO of Vancouver Island Economic Alliance

September 28, 2022

The Rural Islands Economic Partnership (RIEP) is proud to announce exciting news – RIEP’s Board Director Julie Sperber has been appointed President and CEO of the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance (VIEA), as of August 1, 2022.

Julie has served as the Executive Director of the Gabriola Chamber of Commerce for the last four years, and has lived on Gabriola Island with her family for 14 years. Julie will continue to serve on the RIEP Board.

Known as a natural connector and innovative thinker, Julie was a key player in the formation of RIEP. She joined the Board in 2020, excited to support its mandate – to work collaboratively for the benefit of all the rural islands. Julie believes: “collaboration can facilitate capacity which can accelerate avenues to reach shared goals, while also overcoming shared challenges,”

Julie’s experience with supporting rural island economies will no doubt bring a more inclusive scope to VIEA, which was founded as a non-profit organization supporting Vancouver Island economic development.
