“Community is what makes us, and RIEP is about bringing together like-minded people and businesses who truly understand what Island Life is all about.
We need more connection between the Islands. We are alike in so many ways, and at the heart of it is our way of life and our desire for community. RIEP gives us an opportunity to connect and improve and change and grow our businesses for the very best outcomes for our Island communities.” - Mary-Louise Albert, Artistic Executive Director, BCMovement and Art Society
Malcolm Island is located in the Queen Charlotte Strait with ferry access from Port McNeill on Vancouver Island. The Island is known for its whale watching and Finnish roots.
BC Movement Arts is one of a handful of professional dance organizations in Canada that is based in and serving rural and remote communities. They understand the importance of sharing live dance performances with rural communities who are often unable to experience professional dance performances unless they travel to large urban centres. The cost and travel barrier are now removed, and new artistic and cultural opportunities are shared and showcased in Port McNeill, Alert Bay/Namgis Nation, and Malcolm Island with the goal of expanding their presentations to other rural areas of BC.
